At the age of 92, WWII veteran George Howard decided it was time to make his first album. It's something he never thought he'd do , but also something he always wanted. And so he did. With the help of Lansing jazz impresarios Jeff Shoup and Jim Alfredson, he assembled a cast of his favorite local players, choose a handful of standards from the Great American songbook, went into the studio for four hours, and cut this record just like they used to do in the old days. One or two takes, no edits, no overdubbing, everyone just playing and having fun in the same room. In George's tone on the tenor saxophone you can hear the kind of experience and wisdom that only the elderly possess.
He's not here to impress you with fast runs and harmonic avant garde changes. No, he's here to tell a story. It's a story of love, life, and music. George Howard shows everyone how it's done. Enjoy life, take your time, and never say never.
